Chelsea 0-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers; Players Rating vs Wolves
The Thomas Tuchel era begins with a draw against
Wolverhampton Wanderers. Chelsea dominated 79% position of the match but unable
to create a clear cut chance against the stubborn wolves defense. Tuchel only
had a day with the players at training therefore he has not enough time to implement
his game method with his players and Sundays game against Burnley where he can
be really judged. Tuchel went with the 3-4-3 formation and here take a look at
how the players rated on Tuchels first game in charge as the Chelsea manager.

GK- Edourd Mendy- Spectator. Nothing to do at all as wolves just
set up defends against Chelsea. Rating- 5/10
CB- Azpilicueta -
Rarely troubled by wolves attack when needs to defend he defend it well. Showed his attacking capability on the right
hand side sometime put in some decent crosses as well. Overall decent enough
performance from the captain. Rating 6/10
CB- Thiago Silva- made some good interception
and tackles in the middle of the field stopped some of the wolves attack. Apart
from that, same as Azplicueta rarely tested by wolves. Made some good forward
passes as well to start the attack. Rating 7/10
CB- Ruedigar- Just as other 2 Centre backs
rarely tested but when call upon did his job well, few good passes to forward
players as well. Rating 6/10
RWB- Hudson Odoi- New role for him, but played
really well like experience wing back. Outstanding Performance from this Young
Man. Majority of Chelsea’s Attack came from him. Put in dangerous Crosses which
deserved a better Outcome. His linkup
play with Ziyech was Joy to Watch and force Rui Patricio the wolves goal keeper
to make a good save from his shoot after he switched to the Left Wing Back. Brilliant
Display from the Youngster. Rating 8.5/10(Man of the Match)
LWB- Ben Chilwell –
Average Performance from him. Couldn’t make an impact as Hudson odoi on the
Left Side. Had one glorious opportunity to score but blast it over the bar. Put
in some decent crosses but not good as he used to be previously. Rating 5.5/10
CM- Jorginho- Put in Some good passes and
controlled the midfield but it’s not enough. Needs to be more fast and forward
pass to his game as Tuchel wants to play in a fast tempo. Overall decent performance
but needs to adapt to play in the fast tempo game style. Rating 6/10
CM- Mateo Kovacic- Showed the new manager that
he was the player of the year for Chelsea Last season. Brilliant display from
the midfield maestro. Not afraid to take on players with his dribble skills and
he succeed it mostly. Won back the ball from wolves mostly then they have to
position. Just inches away from scoring a beauty of a goal but it was really unlucky
to not find the back of the net. Alongside Hudson Odoi making the statement to
Tuchel that he deserved to the first name on the Team sheet. Rating-8/10
LF- Kai Haverts- Much improved performance
from him. Tried to do something for the team and put in lot of effort. Set up
nicely for Chilwell where he should have scored. Almost scored in the dying seconds of match from the corner but only denied by the wolves defense. Compare to
previous poor games this was an encouraging display from the 21 year old German
international. Rating 7/10
ST- Olivier Giroud- Underwhelming display from
him. Some of his hold up play was good but misplaced so many of his passes. He didn’t
have much of the service as well but should have scored in the opening 10
minutes from Hudson odoi's superb cross. Some of his positioning in the box was
questionable for the crosses. Overall just an average display. Rating 5/10
Substitution
Tammy Abraham for Olivier Giroud- came on for
the last 15 minutes not enough time to make meaningful impact- Rating 5/10
Christian Pulisic for Ben Chilwell- played on the right wing back role put in some
decent crosses in the box. Again not enough time to make real impact to the
match- Rating 5/10
Mason Mount for Hakim Ziyech- His 10 minutes cameo was really impressive. Some
driving run in the box and decent crosses from the corners. A real statement in
a short period time from Mount that he will back in first team squad under the
new manager. Rating 6.5/10
Manager
Thomas Tuchel- It’s
Unfair to rate him now Since he only had day in the Chelsea training ground
with the players. But the substitution could have make it bit earlier apart
from it’s hard to judge him now. The next game against Burnley where the fans
can have a clear view about his game style for Chelsea.
