Chelsea 2-0 Newcastle; Players Rating vs Newcastle
Chelsea is back in the top 4 spots since December 2020 after a 2-0 win against Newcastle as the blues continuing their fine form under Thomas Tuchel. It’s a game of 2 different halves from Chelsea, in the 1st half Chelsea played well takes the deserves 2 goal lead, and could have been more than 2 goals for Chelsea. But Newcastle came out in the 2nd half as a better team and created some good chances as well but they couldn’t get past Chelsea’s strong backline. At the end of the day, it's deserved victory for Chelsea and they are back in the top 4 again. Chelsea went with the same 3 at back system with the 3-4-2-1 formation and here is the player's rating for the match.
Note;(GK-Goal Keeper, CB- Centre Back, LWB- Left Wing Back, RWB-Right
Wing Back, CM- Centre Midfield, LF-Left Forward, RF-Right Forward ST-Striker, )
GK-Kepa Arrizabalaga – It’s his 1st league start since
October relatively he was a spectator for the 1st half but he calls upon into
action for a couple of occasions in the 2nd half and he made a couple of good
saves as well. Rating- 7/10
CB- Azpilicueta –the shakiest player on the pitch for
Chelsea. Struggled to deal with the physical presence and pace of
Saint-Maximin. Nothing offered when he goes forward and also had some sloppy
passes. Defend it well at a certain time but overall the captain was not at his
best today. Rating 5.5/10
CB- Andreas Christensen – Again dominate in aerially and
nothing let goes past him. Also had some nice passes to forward players but
sometimes he is hanging on the ball too much time which allows the Newcastle
player to press him highly. Overall in the absence of Thiago Silva, Christensen
doing well for Chelsea in the center of defense. Rating 7/10
CB- Ruediger- The best defender on the pitch for Chelsea. Again he was ruthless and
nothing goes let past him. Also, he attempts some nice crosses to switch the
play from left to right as well. Rating 7.5/10
RWB- Hudson Odoi- Again the threat for the opponent’s
defense. Link up well with mount and put in some good crosses as well. He did
well to handle the pace and physical strength of Saint-Maximin to relieve the
pressure on Azpilicueta. Rating 7.5/10
LWB- Marcos Alonso –looking bright in the 1st half and
tested Karl Darlow with the low shoot volley. Also created one good chance for
Werner which the German International should have done better with the chance.
Quiet in the 2nd in attacking sense and defensively he did well as well and he
needs to. But he needs to improve on his crossing ability as he gets into some
good position and his crossing let him down at certain times. Rating
6.5/10
CM- Jorginho- he had a good 1st half as he controlled the midfield and tempo of the
game well. In the 2nd half once Newcastle starts to press him highly he started
to lose the ball in some dangerous positions. But as the game goes on he
recovers it well and starts to overcome the high press on him Rating
7/10
CM- Mateo Kovacic- Tuchel has done some Magic to him. He was immense
today and the best player on the pitch. He was almost involved in every aspect
of the game tonight as he involved defensively with a couple of good tackles
and interception, tirelessly pressed the Newcastle players, and try to win the
ball back from them. While in the attacking sense some of Chelsea’s dangerous
attacks were coming from him as he shows intent with his passing and some quick
dribbling in defense to attack. Werner might have a crucial contribution to the
goals but Kovacic is the best player on the pitch today. Rating-9/10
Man of The Match
RF- Mason Mount- Not at his usual threat but still managed to give
some headache to the Newcastle defense with some turns, flicks, and Linkup well
with Hudson Odoi Should have done better with his chance after his left footed
shot went wide of the post. And his work rate cannot be questioned as he worked
hard for the team but the end product could have been better in certain
situations. Rating 7/10
LF- Timo Werner- it could have been the man of the
match display for the 2nd League Match running but it’s not his fault to be
denied. It’s just because of the presence of the world-class Kovacic. But
Werner deserved to gets a massive appreciation as well as he was involved in
Chelsea’s goals. His crossing from the left channel end up being an opening
goal for Chelsea and he reacts well to the loose ball from the corner as he
scored his 1st League goal in 15 matches. He could have had a hat-trick but
only denied by his poor finishing which he needs to improve for the upcoming
matches. Overall his confidence is coming back to him as he improving game by
game. Rating 8.5/10
ST- Tammy Abraham - Looking lively in the first 18
minutes but unfortunately went off in early of the match after looking like a
potential ankle injury. Rating 5/10
Substitution
Olivier Giroud for Tammy Abraham - came on for the
Injured Abraham and scored the 1st goal of the match with a nice finish. His
hold up play has improved a lot from his last league match. - Rating
7/10
Ngolo Kante for Mason Mount–Came on for the last 20 minutes to
give some freshness to the team. He had some good runs and also created some
chance as well to the team - Rating 6/10
Reece James for Hudson Odoi-His 12 minutes cameo was impressive.
His deflected shot was well saved by Karl Darlow and being a threat for the
Newcastle defense. Defensively he defends it well in the short period. Rating
6.5/10
Manager
Thomas Tuchel- The German Manager is having a
massive impact on Chelsea. Before he took over Chelsea were in 9th in the table
but now they are in the top 4 and 2 points above the defending champion
Liverpool. Players like Werner, Ruediger, Jorginho, Alonso, and Christensen who
have been underperforming previously now they are looking like a different
player under his management. There is still room for improvement but Tuchels
Chelsea keeping the momentum going on with another win. Rating 8/10
