Chelsea 0-0 Manchester United; Players Rating vs Manchester United

It's a game of Defense vs Attack where at the end of the game defense of both teams came out as the winners as Chelsea and Manchester United match end up in a goalless draw. Both teams have few notable chances especially Chelsea had some of the best chances of the match but couldn’t take their chances. Defensively Chelsea solid again but attacking-wise yet again Chelsea was not ruthless in front of the goal and also lacking in the cutting edge again. Chelsea is still unbeaten under Thomas Tuchel but they need to improve their attacking ability of the game to create more clear-cut chances and also should be more clinical enough to convert their chances to goals. The Blues line up at their usual 3 at the back system and here is the player's rating of the match.

GK- Edouard Mendy – not many saves to make but call upon into action a couple of times and he did well as he makes a couple of good saves. But in a certain situation, he pushes the ball into the dangerous areas but luckily there were no Manchester united players to react to it and overall decent enough Performance. Rating- 6.5/10

 CB- Azpilicueta – Commanding display from the captain as he dealt well with Rashvord and Luke Shaw. Couldn’t get forward too much but create one good chance for Hudson Odoi in the 1st half. Rating 7/10  

CB- Andreas Christensen – he is stepping up since the injured of Thiago Silva as he produced the man of the match display against Manchester United. He had 100% passing accuracy and won all his aerial duels as he did put a foot wrong in the center defense, the player that rejuvenated under Thomas Tuchel. Rating 8.5/10 Man of the Match

CB- Ruediger- another Impressive display from the German International in the defense for Chelsea. Dealt well with Dan James and Wan-bissaka and compare to his previous matches he contributes for Chelsea in the attacking sense for this match as he made some thriving forward runs. He also put one great switch of play from left to right with a great cross for Hudson Odoi which ends up as the best chance of the match for Chelsea which they failed to convert.  Rating 8/10

RWB- Hudson Odoi- Had one nervy moment in the Handball incident which was accidental. Apart from that, he was the best player for Chelsea in the 1st half. Almost scored with the great volley and also create the best chance of the match for Giroud with a great cross but the striker failed to convert it. Unfortunately went up at halftime after a minor left thigh injury. Rating 7/10

LWB- Ben Chilwell – Defensively has had a solid game where dealt well with the threat of Dan James’s pace. But he couldn’t offer much when he goes forward as he had quiet in the attacking aspect of the game. Still, he creates one good chance for Ziyech which Ziyech should have done better with the chance he had. Rating 7/10

CM- Ngolo Kante- the main reason why Bruno Fernandez went missing in the match as Kante pocket it the Portuguese International. Almost stops every dangerous Manchester United move with the good interception as he had a match-high of tackles and interceptions. His break-up play and passes from midfield to attack could have been better in certain situations but overall it’s a performance that a reminder to the fans that why he is still one of the best midfielders in the world when he was on top form. He also had some rating as Christensen but the defender just edge him for the man of the match. Rating 8.5/10

 CM- Mateo Kovacic- controlled the midfield well as the Manchester United midfield struggled to compete with him and Kante for the majority of the match. But he sometimes overplays in Chelsea’s defensive half which ends up in a dangerous situation for Chelsea and also his end product could have been better as well but overall another impressive display in the midfield for Chelsea.    Rating-7.5/10 

RF- Hakim Ziyech- the worse player on the pitch in the 1st 45 minutes. Poor passing and losing the balls in the dangerous area end in a very complicated situation for Chelsea. If not for Hudson Odoi's injury he could have been subbed off in halftime and probably the manager should have taken off him as he could have to use the 2 substitutions in the halftime. Improved a bit in the 2nd half but he had one massive chance to score which saved the De Gea but he should have done well with the chance. Overall he seemed not good enough for the starting 11 at this moment. Rating 4/10

 LF- Mason Mount- the only and real attacking threat of Chelsea as other forward players failing to make an impact in the match. Fred was having a torrid time with Mount as Mason Mount getting better for him for time after time. But the problem with mount was his end product and poor decision making on crucial situations which the area he should improve a lot, apart from that another good display from him for Chelsea.   Rating 7/10 

 ST- Olivier Giroud- after the hype of Atletico Madrid's display this was his poor outcome from him. He had one chance to score from Hudson Odoi cross but he failed to convert it. Relatively he was quiet for the Majority of the match.  Rating 5/10 

 

Substitution

Reece James for Hudson Odoi- came on at halftime to replace the injured Hudson Odoi and he defends it well and put in a couple of good crosses as well. He almost scored after De Gea makes the save from Ziyech's effort, James shoot was well blocked by Luke Shaw. -Rating 7/10

Christian Pulisic for Olivier Giroud- Came on for the last 25 minutes and try to make things happen for Chelsea but he couldn’t be done that. Did nothing wrong and also nothing good- Rating 5/10

 Timo Werner for Hakim Ziyech- came on for the last 12 minutes and he put some effort to try to make things happen as he almost scored from James cross but it was defended well by the Manchester United defense. Had one low shoot which saved easily for De Gea Rating 5.5/10

 

Manager

 Thomas Tuchel- for the first time after his arrival his tactics and game management raised some questions. Why he didn’t instruct the players to switch the play as the 2 wing backs were having a lot of spaces or did the players didn’t do what he said? And the game management has been not good enough for this match as to why was Ziyech playing in the 2nd half after his 1st half display. Maybe Hudson Odois injury might be the reason but Tuchel could have used another substitution to take Ziyech off at a half time or even instead of taking Giroud off the manager could have taken Ziyech off for Pulisic as after Giroud went off Chelsea didn’t have a proper target man on the pitch for Chelsea. Why was Abraham not even in the Squad, he is the top scorer for Chelsea this season, and putting him on the bench could have been useful as well. Tuchels game management and tactics have been spot on since his arrival but for today’s match, he completely got it wrong and hopes that he'll recover it well for the upcoming matches, and yet again the players also need to improve as well.   Rating 5/10
