Chelsea 2020/21 season rating;Part 2 Midfielders

This is part 2 of the season ratings as the midfielders will be rated, and some of our midfielders mostly played a more advanced role for the team because of their versatility.   

 

Midfielders

Jorginho (Squad number-5)-Central Midfielder/Holding Midfielder AGE; 29 YEARS

His appearances have been reduced under Lampard for the 1st half of the season because Kante preferred the holding midfield role but after the arrival of Thomas Tuchel, he rejuvenates himself in the double pivots at the midfield. His calm and composure in midfield help Chelsea play out from the back and he scored a lot of important penalties for Chelsea this as he is the leading goal scorer for the team in the Premier League with 7 goals as all from the spot. He had a couple of shocking displays in Midfield particularly the match Against West Brom was very poor but overall he silenced the unfair criticism he had previously after being a key figure to the end of the season's success. 

2020/21 Stats- 43 appearances, 8 goals, 3 assists

Rating-8/10

Sell him or Keep him; My Perspective- he has some flaws in his game like his passing rage much often more on side-ways or backward even that’s suits perfectly for some matches but with Chelsea now playing with a fast intensity Jorginho should be starting to adopting to this way. For sure I will keep him but we need a massive upgrade to this midfield if we want to keep on competing for the high level. 

Practical View- Chelsea now starting the negotiation with him to extend his contract therefore for sure he will stay with the club this summer.  

 

Mateo Kovačić (17)- Central Midfielder AGE;27 YEARS

One of the consistent players in the squad as Kovacic had a fairly good season with Chelsea, as his driving with the ball through the middle and dribbling skills were vital for Chelsea in creating a lot of great openings in attack this season. He had an odd game of shaky performances, whenever Kovacic played this season he gives his 100% hard work on the pitch, and his goals/assist stats not impressive at all but his attribution to the team was more than that. He also had many outstanding displays in the role of the double pivot in midfield after Thomas Tuchel took over Chelsea but at the end of the season his appearances had been limited by his injuries and also Tuchel more favored Kante and Jorginho for the double midfield pivots role and overall Kovacic had another good season with Chelsea. 

2020/21 Stats- 42 appearances, 2 assists

Rating-7/10

Since he arrived at Chelsea on permanent basics Kovacic has been one of the consistent players in the squad and also he still in his prime years therefore from all perspectives Kovacic will stay for sure this summer.

 

N'Golo Kanté (7) AGE; 30 YEARS- Central Midfielder/Holding Midfielder

just have to make it simple, Under Lampard, he was good apart from that some shaky spell during the new year and Christmas Period, But when Tuchel took over and playing on his favorite one of the double pivot in midfield Kante was being Phenomenal as he backs to his very best under the new manager. He was the man of the match in both Semi-final, final of the Champions League, and Kante was the main man in the team for Chelsea’s champions’ league success this season. As I mentioned earlier under Lampard, apart from that shaky period he was good and under Tuchel he was back to his very best as I do not hesitate to say that he is the best midfielder in the world right now. But despite his Phenomenal ending of the season, he is not my player of the season for Chelsea as another player who just edged him because Kante form was dipped during the difficult period of the season. Despite that, we can forget his difficult time for his world-class displays under Thomas Tuchel.  

Stats- 48 appearances, 3 assists 

Rating- 9/10

No argument with this, the best midfielder in the world right now and keep him all day long from all perspectives.

 

Billy Gilmour (23)-Central Midfielder/Holding Midfielder AGE 19 YEARS

The youngster was a 4th choice midfielder in the team and rarely feature under both managers but whenever he calls upon into the team he did well especially even though he up against some of the big team, Billy Gilmour didn’t show a sign of nervous or fairness towards them as this kid has the potential to be one of the best in the world in near future.

Stats- 11 appearance,

Rating- 6/10- as I mentioned earlier he did well when he call upon but he didn’t play much of the matches to give him marks therefore 6 should be a fair reflection.

Sell him or Keep him; My Perspective- for sure we should not sell this wonder kid but if Chelsea signs another midfielder in the summer he will the 5th choice midfielder in the team therefore it might not help him to improve or progress in his career if Chelsea signs another midfielder I would like to see a loan move to a good side where he can play the 1st team football regularly. 

Practical View- I think if sign a midfielder the club would decide to loan him to gain more 1st team football under his belt but whatever it is we should not sell him.

Mason Mount (19) Central Midfielder/Attacking Midfielder/Left Wing or Left forward/Right Wing/Right Forward- AGE; 22 YEARS

He is the official player of the season for Chelsea and so my player of the season as well. From the start to finish of the season he has been outstanding for Chelsea. Even when there is a period that the results didn’t go well because the majority of the players being out of form that period, during that time Mason Mount was the only player who showed the fight and passion against the opponents. Everyone thought the arrival of Tuchel could be the end of the Mason Mount in the Chelsea shirt but he is the first name on the team sheet under Thomas Tuchel. There is still room for some improvements with his finishing and decision makings but he has already established himself as one of the top young talents in the world right now and also look at his playing positions in the team as it will show that how versatility he is. Lampard's son? Southgate’s son? Tuchels son? No, he is just a gem of a football player. 

Stats- 54 appearance, 9 goals, 8 assists

Rating-9/10-2020/21 Chelsea player of the season

Is there anything to say about whether to keep him or there is no room for discussion about this, tie with him as there is a legend in making for Chelsea Football Club, I know it’s too early to say this but he is the legend in making for Chelsea.

 

Kai Havertz(29) Attacking Midfielder/Left forward or Left-wing/right forward or right-wing/False 9/Right or Left Striker- AGE; 22 YEARS

Arrived last summer with a fee of 72 million and he had a difficult first half of the season because he struggled to adapt to the new league which leads to his form dipped compare to his previous season, he also had some injury issues and he tested positive for covid-19 which ruled him out for another 2 weeks. But under Thomas Tuchel, Havertz regains his best form as he produced some brilliant performance on the big stage for Chelsea and he is the match winner of the Champions League final as he scored the only goal of the match. overall it’s a hit-and-miss season for him but under Thomas Tuchel he has already found his best form again, therefore, he will be one of the main players for Chelsea next season. 72 million? Does anyone talking about his fee now, one crucial goal in the champions league final can erase the whole struggle? Yes, can.  

Stats; 45 appearances, 9 goals 7 assists

Rating; 7/10- for the overall season I would give him 6/10, since he is the match-winner in the biggest club competition I upgrade that into 7/10.

He is finding his best form under Tuchel and also starts to score more goals, making impacts in crucial matches as well therefore from all perspectives keep him.
